John Lizars – Antique Originals

Hailed as one of the most elegant anatomical works of the 19th century, Scottish surgeon John Lizars’s A System of Anatomical Plates of the Human Body contains 101 plates detailing various aspects of the human anatomy. The atlas was originally issued from 1822 to 1826, and printed by the surgeon’s brother, William Home Lizards, who famously engraved the initial plates of John James Audubon’s famed folio, The Birds of America.
