About Karl Bodmer
Born in Switzerland in 1809, Karl Bodmer was a landscape artist and illustrator known for his depictions of the American West and Native American cultures published in Travels in the Interior of North America. In 1832, Bodmer accompanied German scientist Price Maximilian on an expedition in North America with the aim to study and document the flora, fauna, and tribal life they encountered on the western frontier. The fruits of their expedition were later published in Travels in the Interior of North America, which proved highly influential and offered Europeans a unique and vivid glimpse into the Native American cultures and landscapes of the time.
