About Jacob Trew and Georg Dionysius Ehret
Dr. Jacob Trew was a Nuremberg physician who collaborated with the young German artist Georg Dionysius Ehret to produce a number of botanical publications. As a physician, Trew’s botanical knowledge was considerable because the study of botany and medicine overlapped significantly at this time. Meanwhile, Ehret was the artistic force behind their projects and looked to Trew for guidance and direction. The fruitful collaboration of the two men resulted in a number of historic botanical folios including Plantae Selectae (1750 – 1773).
About Plantae Selectae
Plantae Selectae (1750 – 1773) was an isolated phenomenon among 18th-century botanical illustrations in that it appealed to both artistic and scientific communities because of its astounding beauty and botanical accuracy, causing French naturalist Bernard de Jussieu to commend Trew by exclaiming; “The coloured drawings of plants which you have published surpass in beauty and exactitude everything that has appeared in this genre till now” (Bernard de Jussieu 1754).
The Oppenheimer Edition of Plantae Selectae offers all 100 of Jacob Trew and Georg Dionysius Ehret’s plates of exotic plants and botanicals as modern prints. In a limited edition of 200, the fine art prints are made with the finest quality archival pigments on rag watercolor paper and executed to exacting standards.

Return Policy
We accept returns of artwork purchased on our website within 30 days of the purchase date. Artwork returned in the same condition it was sent in is eligible for a complete refund. Condition
Every piece of artwork shipped from Joel Oppenheimer Gallery will be sent in good to excellent condition unless otherwise stated. Due to the depth of our inventory, some artwork may need to be conserved before it is shipped to you. This service is included with the purchase of every piece of antique artwork at Joel Oppenheimer, Inc. Original Audubon Octavos 1st Edition will be shipped in an archival rag board mat. Audubon 2nd edition Octavos are shipped as is.
Delivery
Unframed artwork is typically shipped within 2 - 10 business days of purchase. If an antique piece requires conservation before it is shipped, this typically adds 5 - 10 business days to the delivery time. Framed artwork purchased online typically ship within 10 - 15 business days of the purchase date. You will be contacted in 2 - 3 business days with an estimated ship date.
