About Margaret Mee

Margaret Mee is a botanical artist and environmental activist who, at the age of 43, moved from England to Sao Paulo, Brazil to paint. It was here that she cultivated her appreciation for plant life, which was the central focus of her paintings. Over 30 years, Mee completed 15 expeditions through the Amazon basin during which she – guided by natives – sketched, painted, and collected plants. Her paintings capture orchids, bromeliads, cacti, clusa, and other plants native to the Amazon rainforest. As an environmental activist, Mee used her artwork as a means through which to draw attention to the forces threatening the Amazon rainforest including mining and deforestation.

Every piece of artwork shipped from Joel Oppenheimer Gallery will be sent in good to excellent condition unless otherwise stated. Due to the depth of our inventory, some artwork may need to be conserved before it is shipped to you. This service is included with the purchase of every piece of antique artwork at Joel Oppenheimer, Inc. Original Audubon Octavos 1st Edition will be shipped in an archival rag board mat. Audubon 2nd edition Octavos are shipped as is.

Unframed artwork is typically shipped within 2 - 10 business days of purchase. If an antique piece requires conservation before it is shipped, this typically adds 5 - 10 business days to the delivery time.
