About The Flower Garden Display’d
Robert Furber’s publication The Flower Garden Display’d contains 12 prints featuring the various plants that are in bloom for each month of the year. In each engraving, the plants overflow from opulent urns in an orchestra of color while a ledger at the bottom of the sheet indicates the depicted plant species. Upwards of 30 different plant species are represented in each plate with over 400 species depicted in the entire series. As a result, Furber’s 18th-century engravings functioned not only as aesthetic decorative objects but also as functional seed catalogs to be referenced by horticulturists.
The Oppenheimer Editions publication of Furber’s The Flower Garden Display’d makes available all 12 plates as modern fine art prints in a limited edition of 200.
